Apple did it again! It seems every product they make is packed with “WOW” factors. I upgraded to the latest iPhone 3. firmware as it was released today, the downloading, backup and upgrading took awhile, but the end result was well worth the wait, in fact, my iPhone feels like a brand new phone!

One of the coolest new 3. feature by far is the “Find My iPhone”. For MobileMe subscribers, if you ever miss place your iPhone, you can use the MobileMe web interface to see where you left it (cell tower triangulation?) and send a message and alarm to the phone so whoever pick it up can contact you… At the worst case, you can remotely wipe out all the data! That’s badass!

Well, I did a test, the triangulation took a minute or two, and the result was surprisingly accurate! My phone displayed the message and alarm I sent almost instantaneously. I didn’t have the guts to remote wipe my data, I will just take Apple’s words for it, I am sure it works. ;-)

Imagine driving on the road, and you look in your rearview mirror, and see this big imposing front grill of a right on your tail, with sirens going off, and lights flashing… scary? Well, if you are like me and live in the good O’ US of A, you will never see such sight. But if you are a resident of London, watch out, the pimped out king of off road is the property of the London . That is some luxury ride for the ! Well, is from the UK, so everything make sense afterall…

I got very excited at the and spent an hour and half watching its entire demo. What an amazing technology! Great technologies come out all the time, but from time to time something so out of this world surfaces and the only thing you can say is “WOW”!!

is said to be the next “Email”, that’s a modest description. The demo shows how interactive and real time Wave is, no more waiting for the other person to reply to your or email, you get to see the reply as the other side types, character by character, just like a real face to face conversation would. The technology put the brain back to the server side (with the exceptions of client-side extensions), having all the user generated contents resides on the host allows a real time collaboration for all of its shared users. Goodbye to the individually sent emails, it’s similar to online GoogleDocs, Wiki or bulletin board for everyone to collaborate on.

Wave effectively combines pretty much all the communication medium we use today: email, forum, blog, chat, twitter, facebook, evite, , wiki, online meeting and etc. Since everything is centrally stored, sync is no longer a concern, IMAP then is obsolete?

Editing feature is also amazing, the spellchecker is no longer individual word focused, Wave’s spellchecker interpret your sentence for meaning and correct the misspelled word accordingly. So it knows that “been soup” should really meant “bean soup”. How cool is that?!?!

Watch the demo, it is long but entertaining. The last part of the demo really blew me away, with the help of add-on plugin, the real time conversation on Wave can be translated between 40+ languages, as you type! Talk about a world without boundaries, with this amazing thing, you can really talk to anyone from any part of the world in the language you are comfortable with.

Ok, I am going to bed, just couldn’t resist to blog a bit about this “historical event”.

How can someone’s laughter, bring me so close to tears…

So well put… What a difference in the worlds we live in! Such primitive human need is never an issue and hardly ever across in our minds, and yet it is something that’s very real to many people, something they struggle with everyday. This short film really puts things in perspective, next time when we argue between M3 or M5, A|X or AF, perhaps we need and think about what we already have, be thankful, and try to do something positive to help others…

I received a YouTube comment earlier this morning on the video of me proposing to Vivian back in Dec. 2006. The nice comment brought back that special memory for Vivian and me. How time flies, I still remember that moment vividly, even with all my friends there backing me up, I was so nervous and didn’t really know what I was saying. :-) I am glad she accepted me, and now we are vacationing in Vegas, the two of us, with the baby in the tummy.

Mediasia has made a comment on Jiaying Proposing to Vivian:

Very sweet. And the man is so confident, just like a man should be. Very inspirational.

I have to say, I have thought about proposing marriage to someone before, and it’s amazing you could keep your cool. Like, in that moment when the young woman was speechless, I can understand wanting to know, is it yes, or is it no?

Congratulations.

Thank you Mediasia!

Vivian’s tummy growth is picking up speed as she is already 6 months pregnant. By summer not only it will be impossible for us to go anywhere, we’ll need to remain in the close vicinity of the hospital. So, this is really our last chance to getaway.

We tried our best to keep the rest of this week open, and pushed projects to next week, so we can have a quick vacation. This is so last minute, which made booking anything very tough. We dropped the idea of taking a road trip visiting Yosemite/Grand Canyon, this is suppose to be a vacation, the long driving will be quite uncomfortable for Vivian, plus, she is not all the thrilled about national parks anyways. I searched for all-inclusive vacation packages to Cancun, Bahamas, Jamaica, Cayman Islands, Puerto Rico, Aruba… pretty much all the cliche Caribbean vacation spots, however we are pretty much out of luck since this is so last minute, and the multiple flight transfers will seriously eat into our already short mini-vacation.

We ended up booking the new Palazzo hotel in Vegas (the new Venetian), heard it is a very good choice. The trip will be nothing but to relax, catch some shows, chill at the pool, walk around the Strip, try out different restaurants, and take a side trip to check out the Grand Canyon since Vivian hasn’t been there yet.

This is probably the last vacation for us before the arrives, we have to savor the moments. Between all the activities in the next four days, we also need to nail down a name for the kid, that’d be our only assignment.

One more for the night, just couldn’t resist.

I have been enjoy watching all the latest Target commercials, kudos to Target, in mere few years, they really turned the image of the company around. I remember just few years ago, Target was in the same league as Wal-Mart, or perhaps even Kmart, to me at least. Now, Target boost a new hip image, their products are stylish and yet still affordable!

For me, it was their commercial that really did it. I am sure Target spent beaucoup dollars on their full suite of new commercials, it worked! Go Target!!

Love the way their commercial portraits a luxurious, stylish, hip and most importantly, affordable lifestyle. Their message also says affordable doesn’t mean cheap, it is smart to save money, come and check out the new Target… ;-) I am now the new spoke person for Target.

Oh, their latest commercial song – A New Day is really catchy, a new day, a new Target… love the whole thing, love it! Love it!

Subway should definitely learn a thing or two from Target!
(hate their annoying $5 footlong commercial!!)

The new is what you might called the “strong and silent” type. Simple, slick exterior hides the beast it neatly packed inside. This is not your average desktop, as the matter of fact, it eats the other desktops from Dell/HP for breakfast.

macpro

The new workstation is powered with 2x quad-core Xeons “” processors, with direct DDR3 memory attached to the CPUs. The raw spec is impressive enough, but like all Apple products, there “wow” factor is the design! Open up a ’s chassis, you won’t find any wire flopping around, the entire interior resembles a castle built with Lego, clean and composed. The CPUs/DRAMs have their own slide out tray, making inserting/removing an ease and the HDDs also have their own slide out compartments. Looking at the , it just makes so much sense, makes you wonder why all other computers aren’t like this?! Is Apple that much better of a company than the rest? Well, it is…

I so want one… but have to justify the need first with Vivian… hummm… that’s the hard part.

I love the show 24! Even after seven seasons of ridiculously impossible missions and actions, I still can’t wait to watch the next episode.

One thing on the show that really bothers me is our hero Jack Bauer’s panting. It seems every line he says is accompanied with heavy panting. I know the actions are fast paced, and the plots are thick, but can he at least catch his breath once in awhile? I guess that’s just his acting style, frankly after seven seasons, it is becoming annoying… Com’on Jack!

It is still a bit chilly but is definitely here, how do I know? Well, people around me are all watery-eyed, sneezing and nose running, symptoms of

16 of us went out to the Joseph D. Grant park last weekend for some healthy group activity, which involved BBQ and plenty of volleyball. Victor finally sent me the photos from the event, so here they are!

We all had a good time, and this weekend we are going hiking. Well, I will have to see if I can go or not, since my skin rash (possibility due to encountering poison oak during last weekend’s BBQ) is still flaring up. Hope I can go…

I was driving home 10:30 tonight after finishing up with a project in Fremont, tired and starved. All of the sudden I felt a bit of sadness. For the past year, Vivian and I have been working very hard, trying to build a nest for our growing family. We might have a so called Small Business, but there is really nothing “small” about it, sales & marketing, customer service, QA, payroll, cash flow, tax, insurances, bookkeeping, sourcing & procurement, inventories, employee management… we need to be involved in every aspect of the business, and it is exhausting!

For that brief moment on the way home, I was overwhelmed with mixed emotions, why are we doing what we are doing? We had nice corporate jobs, although they were also tiring and stressful (in a different way), but the corp life had a sense of “security”, I knew when I was going get paid, and at how much, and at the end of the day, I didn’t have to worry about all the overhead cost and payroll.

We threw all that away, in order to be on our own, and now I am driving home 10:30 at night, tired and starved…
